     Nine arrangements for percussion ensemble

 

Trantrio

A percussion trio in two movements by Mats Werner at the medium level.

 

Instruments in the first part are:

  • 1st voice: snare drum, triangle and cymbal
  • 2nd voice: two tom-toms
  • 3rd voice: bass drum, cymbal, maracas

the second part:

  • 1st voice: cymbal, triangle, two woodblocks, cymx2
  • 2nd voice: two tom-toms.
  • 3rd voice: bass drum, bells, maracas, tambourine.

The second part begins and finishes with ”senza misura” without time signature. It is easy but sounds exciting!

 

Marche Militaire

by Franz Schubert. A well-known tune.

The piece is at a medium level. The mallet players ought to be used for some score reading.
This arrangement for 7 players has the following voices:

 

  • 1st voice: xylophone
  • 2nd voice: vibraphone
  • 3rd voice: marimba
  • 4th voice: timpani
  • 5th voice: snare drum
  • 6th voice: bass drum and triangle
  • 7th voice: cym*2

 

Mucho Gusto

This melody, by Percy Faith, is recognized by many Swedes from the national radio sports program.
It is not very long and not to hard to play.

 

  • 1st voice: Bells
  • 2nd voice: Xylophone
  • 3rd voice: Vibraphone
  • 4th voice: Marimba
  • 5th voice: Timpani
  • 6th voice: Tambourine, frusta, slide whistle.
  • 7th voice: Snare drum, crash cymbal, woodblock.

Carmen suite

Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen contains a lot of nice pieces.
I have chosen the most famous and put them together in a medley for percussionists
The pieces are Ouverture, Seguidilla, Habanera (with timpani bass voice), Toreador and Ouverture reprise.

 

The arrangement is for eight players and the instruments are:

 

  • 1st voice: bells
  • 2nd voice: xylophone
  • 3rd voice: vibraphone
  • 4th voice: marimba 2
  • 5th voice: marimba 1(bas)
  • 6th voice: timpani
  • 7th voice:bass drum and triangle
  • 8th voice: cym*2, tambourine, castagnettes, snare drum.

North & South

The music is from the TV series ”North & South”. The arrangement has eight voices with three mallet parts.
